Specific ATM requirements
Text-to-speech output: the self-service terminal must integrate text-to-speech technology.
Personal headset use: allow customers to connect their own headphones for audio functions.
Contrast and tactile controls: high-contrast, tactilely perceptible buttons and keys.
Response time: if the terminal has time limits, it must alert users through multiple sensory channels (audio, visual) and allow response time extensions.
Assistive technology compatibility: the ATM must interface with assistive devices (e.g., hearing aids).
Sequential commands / motor skills: no requirement for simultaneous actions; avoid excessive fine motor skills; provide alternative input options.
Privacy and identification/biometrics: operation must safeguard user privacy, with alternatives where biometric authentication is used.
Functional consistency and interaction flexibility: sufficient time for actions, logical navigation, ergonomic consistency.

- Entry into force of the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882).
• All new ATMs installed must meet accessibility requirements.
• All new banking service contracts must comply with accessibility rules.28 June 2030
- Deadline for contracts signed before 2025: they must be adapted or renewed in compliance with the directive.Up to 15 years after commissioning
- ATMs installed before June 2025 may remain in service until the end of their economic lifetime, but no longer than 15 years.
Example: An ATM installed in 2018 must be replaced or upgraded by 2033 at the latest.What this means for you
• From now on, all new installations must comply with accessibility standards.
• You must plan the gradual replacement of your existing ATM fleet, considering the 15-year maximum usage limit.
• Associated banking services must be fully accessible by 2030 at the latest.

All Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) accessible to the public within the European Union. The regulation applies to all new equipment.
ATMs commissioned before 28 June 2025 may remain in operation until the end of their economic lifetime, but no longer than 15 years after installation.
Failure to comply may result in financial penalties under the Decree of 9 October 2023. The DGCCRF is among the authorities responsible for monitoring compliance.
